CIG face masks reached Beijing 

February 6, 2020, vice chairman and secretary general of the Beijing Returned Overseas Chinese Federation Mr. Dengxin LI, delivered the 10,200 medical masks donated by Chinese Institute Geneva Foundation (CIG) to Beijing Shijingshan Center for Disease Control and Prevention, on behalf of the Beijing Returned Overseas Chinese Federation and the Beijing Overseas Chinese Foundation.

Second batch of 10,800 medical face masks were originally designated to Wuhan Union Hospital through Chinese Language and Culture Education Foundation of China. However,

due to insufficient transportation capacity from Beijing to Wuhan and the long waiting time for domestic logistics, Chinese Language and Culture Education Foundation of China and Hubei Charity Federation negotiated and agreed to transfer these masks to relevant hospitals in Beijing. Half to Chaoyang Hospital and half to Huairou Hospital.

In Beijing, Chaoyang District has the largest number of confirmed patients. Huairou District, as an important area of national top diplomacy, is also the venue of APEC and “Belt and Road” summit forums. International conferences are held there every week. With the number of confirmed diagnoses raises and medical protection supplies runs into severe shortage, the tasks of preventing and controlling the epidemic has been arduous.

Despite of heavy snowfall in Beijing on February 6, the staff of Beijing Overseas Sodality Committee, Beijing Chaoyang Hospital, and Beijing Huairou Health and Medical Committee rushed on the slippery road early in the morning, to collect the 10,800 medical masks from CIG, and transported them back to the frontline hospitals immediately. They said it was a help in their hour of need, we think it is our duty!

At present, the 21,000 masks donated by CIG have all been sent to the frontline hospitals. The doctors at Huairou Hospital praised the high quality of our masks.

As CIG members and overseas Chinese, although we cannot go to the front line to fight against the coronavirus like medical staff or participate in the research and development of medicines and vaccines like scientists and researchers, our hearts are with our motherland, we wish to do our best to collect medical supplies and raise donations to fight the epidemic!

The virus is ruthless, but we are surrounded by love; With the strong and united efforts of the Chinese people and our foreign friends, we believe that China will win this battle. We are all looking forward to that day!
