On 21stApril 2018, Mrs. Jun CHU (CIG Founder and Director) and Mrs. Zhimin SUN (CIG vice Director), together with other 12 CIG teachers paid an official visit to Dan Hua Culture & Education Centre in Rotterdam, one of the biggest Chinese schools in the Netherlands.

About Dan Hua Rotterdam

Dan Hua Culture & Education Centre is one of the biggest Chinese schools in the Netherlands. It was founded in October 1999 and awarded “Chinese Education Model School” by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council of China in 2011. 

Dan Hua Culture & Education Centre has various departments for preschool students, primary school students, secondary school students, advanced Chinese classes and adults’ classes. It consists of 25-27 classes with 550-620 students. 

Dan Hua’s success 

Dan Hua is becoming increasingly popular and the number of students is rising every year. Mrs. Peiyan LI (Dan Hua Director) attributed its success to the unique teaching philosophy, constant exploration of teaching methods and academic studies and exchanges. 

Dan Hua has 40 teaching staff. It is a group of qualified and experienced teachers, who are passionate about Chinese education and make great effort to pass on Chinese cultural knowledge during the weekend. Lots of them attended numerous professional trainings in China at their own expenses. They are the guarantee of teaching quality of Dan Hua Cultural & Education Center.

Teaching materials of Dan Hua

For teaching materials, Dan Hua adopted “Zhong Wen” developed by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council of China. In addition, Dan Hua has also used “Zhong Hua Zi Jing” and “Deng Ji Han Zi” by Prof. Baohua GUO as parallel materials since September 2007. This combination has achieved significant results in increasing students’ vocabulary and enhancing their reading comprehension. 

Our CIG teachers have greatly benefited from this visit. All 14 teachers attended two lectures of “Zhong Hua Zi Jing”, and then went individually to different grades for observations. The visit ended by a session of experience exchange, among teachers from both Chinese schools, on class management, teaching methods, curriculum design, teacher-student interaction etc.

About CIG

Teachers training and exchange activities have always played a core role in CIG’s development. We organize regular seminars and participate actively in all kinds of training opportunities provided by the Confucius Institute and the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council of China.

As CIG marks its 10thanniversary this year, it is a major achievement. In December 2017, CIG was awarded “Chinese Education Model School” by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council of China at the 4thInternational Conference on Chinese Education in Beijing.

During our visit to Dan Hua, teachers from both schools exchanged extensively in many fields including teaching methods, class management and website designs. As highlighted by Mr. Hua JIANG, Director of the Consular Department of China Embassy in the Netherlands, nowadays Chinese people are all over the world as China becomes much stronger and much more powerful. Overseas Chinese schools are bridges to spread Chinese language and culture. CIG is determined to build up a platform with high quality Chinese language courses and colorful cultural activities for not only Chinese but also local students in Switzerland, to promote overseas Chinese education and to encourage cultural exchanges between China and Switzerland.
